This is a book we started reading in middle school and I remember the concept fascinating me so much that I saw it in a store years later to read it again.

I think that Seitz is a very talented writer, and I enjoyed reading her work. However, the story told in this book didn't reach me in quite the way I was hoping. I was left with a lot of unanswered questions by the end. I think that this would be a good book for a discussion group, though, since much of this book raises questions about aging, love, the choices we make, how the sins of fathers are revisited on sons, and how vicious cycles can be broken within families. This copy was provided to me by Goodreads' First Read program, and I was not required to give a positive review.

Absolutely fantastic read. Couldn't put it down. Rasimus tells his story from his perspective, and it's a great read.

Well, I've read the preface, and it's clear the author is a bit of a prat. I've seen a few reviews around that warned of this. I'm reading it on a Kindle, which is a bit of an experiment--this is a hand-me-down first edition Kindle with a bum scroll wheel, so it's prohibitively difficult to skip in and out of footnotes. Also, the Kindle makes it a pain to skip over things like the preface. Or the bloody acknowledgements. But maybe it's just as well I read the preface. Mr. Beckwith talks about himself, his interests and his motives kind of a lot. And he clearly has an axe to grind (tediously) about modernism and postmodernism, and within the preface he shows himself to be a seriously sloppy thinker at least about those things. So I'm going in wary. But then again, he knows a great deal more than I do about the history of this region of the world, not only more detailed history but he knows about whole ethnicities that I've never heard mentioned even in passing, so I can't help but gain by reading this thing, warts and all. We shall see.

I liked it more than I expected to...I was initially worried about the violence, but the story carried it through well. Very glad I read it.

This is a decent reference, but I think my dad has a better book with important info this one may not have... I am not sure, but I did not see the necessary pictures of the angles in this book.

Great book. I checked this out from the library expecting other things but I was very surprise. Such an inspiring story of perseverance in spite of object poverty. I cried at times. Knowing this was a true story made it all the more incredible. I highly recommend this.
So disappointed this series has ended thats the only way to describe reading this final book, though I am looking forward to the spin off series following Sydney I'm hoping we'll get at least a few updates on Lissa, Rose and Dimitri (not to mention Adrian!) Anyway phenomenal final ending to the book series predictable in the way that all series are - however I must admit Ms. Mead you did shock me with who was Queen Tatiana's killer..... I had some theories but that wasn't one of them. All in All a great fantasy series!
