This was the third time I read this book, and loved it just as much as usual. I think Ayn Rand writes and conveys her philosophy brilliantly. If you can bring yourself to open a 700 page book and haven't read Ayn Rand, you should read.

Hmmmm... this book helped me a lot at a time I had opened a door, a pathway inside, that once opened I couldn't close. This book helped me realize I didn't have to fight it. For those not on that path this book will seem meaningless and very esoteric.

If you ever wondered how certain social movements got started and what their impact was on a global level then author, Clay Shirky, explains in his book how those movements were started with the help of a few new online social tools. The use of new social media tools allows individuals to be able to pull together other people of similar interest, not within days or months but, now in minutes or even hours. New social movements are able to create change at a faster rate then what used to take months to happen. Before Twitter, Facebook, Meetup, Myspace, etc, came about, if anyone wanted to get someone elected or get a company to change something about a product, they had to set up a lobbying business or organization and recruit people of similar tastes and concerns. The transaction costs involved were enormous because of printing flyers and using people's time but now you can set up a group online and within minutes you have a group of able willing individuals interested in doing the same thing, which companies or congressman can not ignore. These lower social costs and transaction costs have helped start social revolutions, forced companies to change their practices and products and even created change in religious organizations. The author explains that in order for these efforts to come about, you need three rules, and those rules are a Promise of what your service offers, the social tools your service provides and a bargin, in knowing that what you like about this service won't change without the groups approval. All these new social tools have brought a new form of behavior to soceity that has never been exposed before on a global level. This book goes into detail about how to use those social tools to your benefit, either good or bad, and to understand where the world is going with these changes.

Cannot imagine what one human can do to another human... quite gory! :(
I'm not much of a non fiction reader but Machu Picchu is definitely on my "bucket list" so I was interested in reading this book. Adams follows (or tries to) the route/journey of Hiram Bingham - said to be the earliest "western" discoverer of Machu Picchu. There are long sections of history concerning Bingham and his credentials and digressions into the politics of the discovery as well. It's sad to say but, as with most non-fiction I read, I find myself wanting more of the "cliff notes" and less of the nitty gritty. I guess you could say I'm a "just the facts ma'am" kind of non-fiction reader. I enjoyed the parts where Adams is actually traveling through Peru and reading about the people and the topography, etc. but I skimmed a LOT when it came to some of the historical background and politics. For people who like this kind of thing I'm sure this is a great read. Because I'm more of a fiction person this was just an okay book.

I like this series (and her Gallagher series as well). Cute characters, fast paced plot, witty and smart art thief teens, what more could a story ask for?! And this one surrounds the Cleopatra stone which is cursed. Totally unrealistic, but fun.

I'm still reading. Now and then I enjoy books driven by plot rather than character....I loved the one about the cathedral...

I came upon this book when working at a Daycare/Kindergarten program. One of the students had decided to read it for Quiet Time. He asked me to read it. I was unaware as to the content of Captain Underpants book. This is a book that should not be on the shelves for Kindergartners. It is inappropriate and vulgar. It is one thing if your the parent and want your kid to read it. I don't have too much problem with that, but I don't believe that it's appropriate for a kindergarten shelf. The language kind of suprised me.
