OK, OK, I'll have to start this over at this point. Got about 2/3 of the way through. This seems to be a pattern with me and Pynchon books.

No matter how many times I buy a copy of this book (think I'm around 8 by now), and loan it out, it never is returned as the borrower always passes it on to someone else to read. Its that awesome a book, why this has never been made into a film I don't know. Go find a copy, and read today, you'll thank me later.

I enjoyed this book. It did have many point of views, so if you don't like that or you find that disruptive, this isn't for you. However, if you do like multiple POVs, you'll find the jumping back and forth between the characters contribute to the feeling of running out of time. I enjoy seeing what everyone is feeling and thinking, and it keeps me glued to the page to see what happens next from the upcoming character's point of view. The strange connection between Maddie and her tortured twin, with the men who love and are trying to help them save themselves and their family legacy was very intriguing. And I love that the book didn't end on a cliffhanger, but did have a definite lead into a sequel. I hope can't wait to read DeStefano's next twisted thriller!

I wasn't really impressed with this book. I had high hopes for a prequel, and it kind of let me down. There has been so much in the series that was mentioned about the past, I felt that there could've been a prequel trilogy. In one word, it was 'meh'.
I loved it.

loved it
It was amazing. The plot carried the book along and the setting was perfect. The time period fit so perfectly for the story. It helped carry the book.

This book is recommended to fans of biographies, travel narratives, and anyone who has liked other Helene Hanff books, even though it is the least interesting of her autobiographical books.

I loved this book in high school because it was dreamlike and amorphous/ambiguous and everything that happened had a fluid sense of morality about it (as did everyone to whom things happened) which was new in my reading experience. Obviously I wasn't particularly worldly or well-read at the time, but whatever.
