I decided to put cookbooks on my list because I think it's one of the harder things to get recommendations for - plus, I love to cook - so would encourage my other friends to do the same. Taste of Home is actually a magazine where readers send in their recipes, which are then judged, and the best ones are printed up and shipped out. The cookbook is a collection of both the basic recipes everyone needs (i.e. hard-boiled egg, mashed potatoes, etc.) and then the super delicious home-formulated recipes from the magazine. There is a section of the book called "Light and Tasty", which I believe is from the low-cal version of the Taste of Home magazine called "Light and Tasty" but it's only a small section compared to the rest of the book. This is GREAT for entertaining and contains the best recipe for cranberry scones I've ever used. I also like that the recipes are organized by ingredient, alphabetically (i.e. in the vegetable section, recipes featuring brussel sprouts are before recipes featuring carrots). HIGHLY recommended for hard-core cookers who like to impress people with their culinary skills. A lot of the recipes are also fairly easy to make and there aren't many with too exotic ingredients.

Read thanks to Molly. Ditto for "Bird by Bird" and "Operating Instructions."

I really like any book by Parker. He writes several different series, with different characters......so far, I've loved them all. He writes short and sweet, similar to James Patterson. Few extra words...his books are always a fast read.
The ending of "The Ebb-Tide" was quite macabre and it elucidates the notion of moral relativity and how good and evil can be commingled in a person, especially a person under duress. These three stories, especially "Jekyll and Hyde" show that a person can not only be both good and bad, but that the person can compartmentalize seemingly polarized aspects of the personality. In the introduction, the writer notes that the more upstanding Jekyll strove to become, the more nefarious Hyde became. We an see that overcompensating to be good is vanity and essentially destroys the person's goodness.

Really intense book, about the future where there is no more North America. The country Panem has a capital surrounded by 12 districts. Every year the capital has what is called The Hunger Games where a boy and girl from each district are selected to "compete" which is a where the last person standing is the winner. When all of the other tributes are dead but one the games are over. Interesting future, probably 4 1/2 stars for me...book two is due out sept 2009.

I'm not sure why this book was given so many 5 star ratings. I found this book to be predictable, redundant, and very plain. Toward the end of the book I began skimming the pages waiting for it to end. I would not recommend this book.
This was a cute book, suited for the younger kids who are just learning to read. It was a difficult book to find though. You can't buy it in a regular store, I had to get it from amazon.com. I think this book is usually sold through scholastic and you can buy it during the school year when your kids bring home the scholastic pamphlet.

It's unfortunate that this inspired a Cure song.
Hilarious and inspirational. Esme does things differently despite the reactions she gets from administrators, teachers and even students. She knows what makes good teaching and she lives by it.
a book that combines two of my favourite things in the world.

我认为这在很多方面都是一个有趣的故事,但是关于它的写作方式却有些含糊不清,这意味着我很难与角色互动。
