I read this book with the purpose of learning and adopting improved methods to manage my writing. I am often writing to a deadline and feel that the quality of my work suffers. Therefore, I need to learn useful methods to mitigate this problem. I believe Huff’s ideas and lessons will help, especially since she often repeats the same admonitions of my professors. A new idea Huff taught me was that—in addition to the outline—I should also draft a descriptive title and abstract before I begin working on the body of the article or essay. Huff asserted that this additional work in the beginning helps establish an overall direction that I can use as a writing compass while composing the body of my work. She also reinforced the importance of setting aside a regular time to write and the use of an outline. I know I have heard this advice before, but somehow it now has a more teeth. :) Huff also introduced and reinforced many other relevant ideas for scholarly writing. Most important, Huff’s book is about writing well enough for journals to publish what we submit. I believe the salient concept she introduced was that we should remember to treat our writing as a conversation since the ultimate responsibility of scholars is to converse and share. From this perspective, writers should identify conversants and “speak to them.” Huff even shares example methods she uses to further the reality of scholarly conversational writing. The concept of scholarly writing as a conversation has been especially relevant to my dissertation. The most important reinforcement I received from Huff was that I could use writing to think clearly or even to discover what I think. Writing is an effective method to explore new concepts or as a means of efficient learning. Therefore, I am now using a journal and have set aside daily writing time. So far so good! Thank you, Huff!

Grandville Mon Amour is just as fun as the first installment and Bryan Talbot's imagination seems to have no limits—I never thought I'd see an illustration of a walrus snorting cocaine in a brothel. Hopefully the series continues with many more adventures for Detective Inspector Lebrock!

As Preeta and Michael said, a book to be read slowly. Scibona takes so many risks--with language and most of all with structure: though there is a story underneath, most of the book feels like still portraits, with very little action per se. And yet it all works.

Great review of the book I enjoyed the most of his, The Total Money Makeover. It is a great book to give graduates from high school or kids as they are becoming financially minded!

You know there's a problem when the APA had to write a manual about how to use their publication manual, and when there are a bunch of websites out there explaining the manual. This manual sucks, but, unfortunately, a necessary evil if one wants to finish grad. school and continue publishing. So, on my shelf it shall remain...

I don't usually review the books that I read because I usually like whatever I read. However, I thought I would make some comments about this book. I did enjoy this book, but, if you go into reading this book thinking that it is the next Harry Potter, you are going to be disappointed. A good book, yes, but not Harry Potter. First of all, it is written for a younger audience than Harry Potter. The book starts out pretty slow, but once Charlie gets to school at Bloor's Academy, it really picks up. There are many things in this book similar to the story line of Harry Potter, but this is it's own book. As I said before, written for younger kids so the details and characters are not as rich as Potter books. One chapter, The Battle of the Endowed, stands out in my head as it could have been much better written. But on the whole, I enjoyed this book and think that the target audience (Mid-upper elementary school?) will like it too. I will read the other books in this series and my kids will too!

Funny and charming. The story of Toni and Simon was fresh and entertaining. Loved A.J. and Mike the most. Toni is a girl that lives with her brother and his 2 roommates A.J. and Simon. She has every girl's dreams of happily ever after, the only problem is she is in love with one of her roommates: Simon, who has yet to notice her as more than a little sister. Simon is a hunky firefighter who was just betrayed by his fiancee, something he knows a girl like Toni would never do, he is in love with her but he's yet to realize so. It takes Toni pregnant by an unknown man and her attempt to get him to notice her for Simon to understand his feeling towards her. Only trouble is Simon is the father and he doesn't know because he doesn't even remember being with Toni.

More adventures of boy-crazy Georgia Nicolson, just as funny as the first book.

By far, the best Pink Carnation book to date. Although the author begins with a story line that seems almost implausible, she somehow makes it work, to the delight of the reader/listener. This book has plenty of spies and danger for the action minded, but it still maintains the orginality and exquisite character development that is starting to feel like signature Willig. A must for any reader/listener.

I was pleasantly surprised because I expected Bill Bryson to be the typical white straight male traveling to "exotic" places. However, Bryson confronts a lot of the stereotypes that Americans have of Australians with a great sense of humor. One of my favorite descriptions was when he went boogeyboarding. I think I would probably have a similar experience of sinking like a log despite the board. The best compliment is that the travel book made me want to go to Australia.
