Who isn't at least vaguely familiar with Alice in Wonderland? No one, right? Well, who isn't a little more familiar with the story. Me, apparently. Never having read the story before, I thought I'd go ahead and give it a try. Normally books with size 14 font and large margins aren't my thing, though it has happened before. But this book was a pleasure to spend time with. It was easy to feel like a child playing pretend all the way through both stories. The way impossible or nonsensical things just seems to happen is all very real in a child's imagination. Jumping from story to story without waiting for any conclusion is also something I remember never seemed to bother me as a kid. Through the Looking Glass was much more intense in this way than Alice in Wonderland. Things seemed to appear out of nowhere, Alice was transported between scenes in the middle of sentences, uncontrolled nonsense was all around. It was much more disorienting than Alice in Wonderland, and there was not very much hint of a plot even. The words "Attention Deficit" come to mind when reading that book. That, or perhaps we wonder if the author was high on something. Both books have a nice touch of modernism and postmodernism. Absurdism is abundant both in these books and in other modernism artwork. And the postmodern passion for puns is pervasive. (No word back yet from the alliteration administration, however...) Alice is frequently confused by other characters when they misinterpret her sentences, not quite realizing the homonyms she is using. It does raise the key postmodern question of who determines meaning: the speaker, the listener, or the disappearing, grinning Cheshire Cat? good thing:I adored the book carved it on the first day i got. the book was a combination of pride and preduice by jane Austen anf fallen/passion by Lauren kate two amazing books. I loved how the charecters were so open to each other, and no secret left behind thing. though it seemed like Brendan was the one who was finishing the fights she might ave started un-intentionally, i found it really romantic. the sub-genre was paranormal with their recarnation thing with their past selfs. I liked how the girl had a tough attitude and defended her friends such as her cousin who reminded me of Lydia from pride and prejudice. I liked all her friend from Vanessa to Casico. I would reccomend it to all pride and preduice, fallen/passian, any teen novel about recarnation like Evermore, and or any books you liked that i read (cause most of my books are teen paranormal books, lol) bad thing: the book i bought was badly binded and pages kept falling out also the Emma's past didn't really impact her other than she is living with her aunt, and Etan is a earth bound spirt but when you read it you wont really--be impacted by, it was like (no- offense) a pity tale to get people feel sorry for her or I don't know what the outhor was thinking while she wrote it, maybe it was to give her a companion from the other side... also even though Antony was the main antagonist, I felt sorry for him with his dad in the scene where they exited the princepal's room cause of the big fight. Also Kristan (excuse my mis-spelling of name) was stuck in all this cause she couldn't move on from Brendan's big rejection, the one with the laugh and the peace sign before walking away. (I admired how Emma stood up for herself). One more thing: I hope it doesn't have a sequel using Emma and Brendan since there is not much to add and I think their story wrapped up well with 'happily ever after' quote but I hope to see more of her cousin or her friends in some kind of spin'off and if is starting a squel i will totally read it.
