I'm a sucker for mysteries, though this was BY NO MEANS a typical mystery book like I was expecting. It's about a lady detective in Botswana, Africa, with reflections on what it's like to be a woman living in Africa, gender roles, expectations, traditions vs. modernity, etc. It's pretty strongly character driven, which I like. Also, instead of there being one long mystery to solve, the book is comprised of many short stories where she solves various mysteries of all kinds for various types of people. Don't peek at the end before you get to it, because the last page of the book was so sweet, it brought tears; the ending is very much worth the wait.

This was good, Dr. Morrison has lead a pretty interesting life among serial killers. It was fascinating hearing about her time and experiences with them. The book though is less a biography and more of a proposal. After all her years she still wants to know what makes them tick and see if it can be predicted. Most of the book reads like a proposal to government and the powers that be to let her take her research to the next level. She makes a good case and her theories are interesting. I was hoping for profiles of the monsters, but that isn't whats here, her time with them and insight into them, still a very good read.

I was astounded by the fact that three-fourths of the way through, Jones did a "reveal" about a character I loved which completely ruined my previous love. I hated that betrayal. THEN, she did it again with a different character. Again, I felt betrayed. THEN, by the end of the book, she had flipped those reveals so that I loved those characters as much as before. Simply amazing.

This book is a Prequel to Welcome to the World Baby Girl, a book I really enjoyed. However, I was disappointed in this one. It is background to all the characters that were in the first one. At time I reall got bored with it. Had I not read Welcome Home, I would have never finished it.
