This book is pretty much amazing. I went into this anticipating to hate it, but it's one of my all-time favorites. It's not a cheery subject, but it is an interesting one, and how he handles it is even better - one day in the life of this man. One day. many novels cover epic periods of time, but Solzhenitsyn just does one day. It speaks to Solzhenitsyn's writing abilities that this book is as gripping as it is. I haven't read it in awhile, and I'd definitely like to pick it up again.

I can’t help but feel Nina of the Dark should have been titled Reader in the Dark just because that’s how I felt while reading this book. Basically reading through it I had no idea what was going to happen next or how anything was going to go. The few times I did get an idea about what was going I was later found to be wrong as Ken Catran tended to tell you a little bit of information at one point and then later on add to it so you were absolutely wrong. My favourite character in the book was Alen, but he wasn’t there for very long which was quite unfortunate. But I hope he is in the next book a little bit more. The ending took me well by surprise. Basically I thought I had figured out the rough time period the book was set in and the gist of what was going on; then the book kind of did a 270° turn on me. I say 270 because it turned right around and added an extra angle so that I was stunned. Overall, it was a so so book for me. I think I went into it with too high expectations and it fell short of those expectations. I didn’t mind it but it wasn’t the best book I’d ever read. Nina of the Dark is an interesting fantasy story and while I didn’t get into it as much as I had hoped I’m still going to read the next book.

This was another good one. :D I have to say I didn't like Thalia through most of the book but I loved the twists and surprises I got from it. I love Blackjack, Percy's pegasus, he's too cute. :3 And I was bummed Zoe and Bianca die, but I was surprised to find out her and her brother (Nico) are children of Hades.

This book is such a great motivation for me to write, write, write! The author, Mary Pipher, is a talented, hard-working writer and her example shows that writing can bring forth change in important ways. Every step is a step closer to change, to open up realizations, to share stories. I will keep this book on my shelf, for sure, and expect to refer back to it many times.

Once you get past Foucault's rampant paranoia (which gains momentum as the book progresses) he makes some excellent points and provides a fascinating historical analysis on the development of a social construct.
okay, so i really wanted to post the retrospective book of lenore tawney, but there's no cover image, and i hate that. so, let me say that this an artist i keep coming back to. she worked in fiber, painting and collage, and the combination of her philosophy and practice is very inspiring to me.

i think it was overhyped to me such that i couldn't enjoy it. but i just couldn't.
I read this in two days. I felt compelled to read on but by the end I felt irritated by the child and it's attitude. It is a good read but I kinda expected a bit more
