"is there any such thing as wisdom not applied to life?" -Thoreau
It took me a while to get into this, but once I did I really connected with Elphaba. In the words of Kermit the Frog, "It's not easy being green."
Very inspiring.

I have been a devotee of Patti Smith’s poetry and music since the early ‘70’s and was eager to read her memoir of her life with Robert Mapplethorpe. In the beginning, I was surprised how highly relatable her childhood was; I identified with many of the experiences and feelings she expressed of that time period. As I continued to read, I was at first disappointed there were not more in depth details, that sometimes the writing even seemed to obfuscate reality. But I soon realized that truth will out in ways that don’t require details. I found her beautiful writing served to illuminate their sacred connection and her poetic eloquence was ultimately more revealing. I came away with an understanding of their shared innocence, love of art and living for the pursuit of art and the unbreakable bond of kindred souls.

When Victor finds an old typewriter at a yard sale, he has never even thought about being a writer - but he lugs the typewriter up to his uncle's cabin in the woods anyway. He isn't sure what to write about, until he reads a book that says you have to "write naked." So that's what Victor does, until he looks up and there's a girl watching him through the window. I can't remember who recommended this book to me. It was less about writing and more about Victor and the girl (Rose Anna) finding themselves through their writing. The whole book is supposed to be what Victor's been typing the whole time, and includes excerpts from Rose Anna's story and writing. I wasn't a fan of her story, which was about newts and totem animals but basically a big transparent metaphor for her life. I thought it was interesting how she presented a different point of view and challenged Victor a bit. I only wish this was more about the craft of writing or that writing and becoming a writer was more of the focus of the story.
Great book to help anxious moms, like me, relax and giggle about the lessons learned (or to-be-learned) as a new mom.
Captivating story of one mans struggles through the such a horrific time in history!
