A flood of tears flows throgh this book... No wonder since Dan suffers through the biggest, the ultimate betrayal, his lover's unexpected suicide. What left me wondering was the key in and of itself. Almost too much of a coincidence that.

I absolutely bloody loved this book but I do have something of a weakness for male authors writing about their provincial upbringings. I particularly liked the premise that that not all books about growing up need to be 'Angela's Ashes'.It was also a relief that Andrew Collins' speaking voice did not echo in my ears as I read.

I have less than a hundred pages left of this, but it too fell victim to my restlessness which always makes me want to start new books. It's got beautifully written prose, some of the best I've ever read, but I wasn't really at all captivated by the story. I do need to finish it sometime, but who knows when that is going to actually happen. edit: After some encouragement I picked the book back up and read the last 110 or so pages today. The last third of the book is by far the best part of the book, and once I started reading again I had a hard time stopping. It certainly lulled some in the middle 50-100 pages, but I'm definitely glad I finished the book - it's a great read, and like I said already, it has probably the best-written prose I've ever encountered. I need to read more Nabokov books at some point.

A series of odd, sad shaggy dog (cat?) short stories, with an aesthetic that turns on a dime from McDonald's pop culture to misty Japanese maple forests. Sometimes menacing and good, sometimes touchy-feely and bad. A little overrated, but still a good read in transit, after midnight, and hungover, and it has two of my favorite short stories of all time "The Kidney Shaped Stone that Moves Everyday," and "A Shinagawa Monkey."

A mix of stories about the clash between Indian culture and modern life in America.
As another reviewer said, "I really wanted to like this book more than I did.." So far, storyline is a bit confusing with 2 similar (? the same ?)characters; writing style is a bit flat. OK, done now. The topic of immigrants from MX being separated from their families back home and their culture is a very timely one and something that very much interests me. I have read other books, though, where I felt this was dealt with more compellingly. (E.g., High Wire Moon)

this book is about a very smart girl named Matilda. Her parents don't care about her and neither does her older brother. Matilda finds out near the begenning of the book that she has a sort of magic power, she does tons of funny and cool things with these powers like make her mean principle look like a silly fool. Anyway, its an excelent book and always keeps you wondering what will happen next.

So, you know those books where there is a lot of angst due to a huge misunderstanding and lack of communication? Well... I introduce you to "Southern Exposure"! Heath Sinclair has been in love with his teacher, Shiloh Ledger, since high school. When he gets the chance to be with her, he throws all balls to the wall and pursues her with an intensity she has never experienced, as well as passion and dare I say trickery?! "Southern Exposure" was a good read but not Kimberly Zant's best. I liked Heath's character, however, Shiloh's inner dialogue and lack of faith in her partner got tiring after a while.
Good points but Jeff Sachs is NOT my homeboy.
