I just really enjoyed this book. Lauren Oliver has a beautiful writing style. The words come off the page. You absorb them. I love the setting of the novel. Some of the disorienting scenes left me feeling like I was in the room when it happened. She has a way of pulling you in to the story and making you feel the emotions of the moment. There were a few surprises along the way. I love the ending. The last few pages were made me go slowly. I wanted to "get" every word. In the end I felt like I was Lena. And that I was experiencing every moment and emotion with her. I cannot wait for the next book. I highly recommend this book. Even if there were a couple of "f-bombs" lol

this is a great book from a great time in my life. taking 15 hours of philosophy courses and intro logic along with formal logic. this was the text for formal/symbolic. im real right brained at times but this was an awesome experience.

This will not be a terribly thoughtful review, just an expression of excitement. I don’t know how I got this far in my life without anybody telling me what a wonderful writer Katherine Mansfield was. She was a master of the modern short story. When I consider most of the 20C short story collections I’ve read, I think that Mansfield got there first, and did it better. And there was a terrible moment when I saw why Virginia Woolf felt so threatened by her, because, if I’d read the book with no cover or front matter, I’d have thought, Wow, Virginia’s in really good form here! Amazing... Just amazing. Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Egwene especially shined in it. Sanderson did a good job of bringing things together that have been dragging on for 2-4 books in relatively little time and making the entire book a pleasure to read. I look forward to seeing how the series will be finished and have full confidence in Sanderson to do it justice.

I heard an interview with the author on NPR, and she had amazing insights about what the U.S. has inherited from the British in terms of Middle East policy. The one that shocked me the most with how true it is is the racist idea that "they" are always at war and that it's the only thing they understand. "They" are always killing each other. "Their" lives are worth less than our lives. It's okay to fly planes over "them", terrorize "them," drop bombs on "them" from the sky to bring "them" into line. How much news do we read in the Middle East about "tribal infighting" and "sectarian violence" that paints a picture that it is an inherently violent place, so violence is the only solution that "they" will understand or deserve? I hope the book is as good as the conversation with the author.
