The second in Mercedes Lackey's Elemental Masters series, The Serpent's Shadow was very enjoyable. It's a (very different) retelling of the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Though I enjoyed it and I definitely look forward to continuing this series, I did enjoy the first book, The Fire Rose (a retelling of Beauty and the Beast) better, even though it more closely followed the original Beauty and the Beast storyline. At any rate, good read if you enjoy fantasy with some romance intermingled in.

I checked this out from a awesome local library (of which i just became a supporter of, yay!) Lovely recipes, with a unique way of portraying the recipes. Instead of a long list of items you need and steps thereafter, this cookbook lists micro-recipes inside the main one, so you are able to get your mise en place in order before the serious cooking begins. Saturday I'll be trying out the crab and lemon thyme souffles with chervil sauce. Sunday we'll be having pan-seared scallops in a riesling broth with butternut. just counting down the days.

My favorite novel from my Prizewinning Lit class. Atwood can be criticized as being somewhat cold and distant in her narrative style. That's certainly valid and definitely turns off some people. But for my money The Blind Assassin is one of the most perfect novels I've ever read. Atwood's tone fits the character perfectly; the distance and coldness come from weariness and deep, deep pain that is tempered by a degree of the indifference that comes from old age. The novel is intricate, ambitious, and extremely complex. There are something like five different narrative strings that are interwoven throughout the story and they do all actually make sense and add to the work as a whole. What really impressed me is that Atwood creates an entire life in these pages. It's not that this novel is the most heartfelt or the most endearing or the most engaging story ever written, it's that it perfectly articulates a full human life with all its flaws, mistakes, and failures.

I've read this book several times. The first few times I read it was for the wrong reasons, as many people who have read this book have as well. Yes, it is full of triggers and tips, but no more so than any other eating disorder memoir or magazine or movie. I read it again last summer, however, and was able to see and appreciate the brutal honesty in her pages. She doesn't hide what this is about, and she doesn't make concessions or apologies. She tells it like it is. I would recommend this book to any parent or friend of someone who has an eating disorder.

A fairly succinct though nevertheless riveting account of the history of the Bob Graham Round. It details the original mammoth undertaking by Bob, then goes on to recount the continuing and almost superhuman achievements of some incredible extensions to this quintessential yet epic Lakeland challenge. A must read for fell-lovers, runners and aspiring Bob Grahamers!

I haven't read too many biographies, so I don't know that I'm the best person to give opinion on this one, but I did love reading it. I feel closer to and more understanding of President Monson and the incredible life he has led thus far. One thing I wish there had been more of is experiences of his home life as an adult. The focus was mainly on his church service, which was fascinating, but I would have liked to learn more about him as a husband and father as well. But that might not be the author's fault - I wouldn't blame President Monson if he didn't want details of his personal life divulged for all to read. Overall a fantastic read though.

I just noticed that the prompt for this text box is "My Review/What I learned from this book." I learned nothing. It was like reading a 167-pg long parable/Bible story, without even a good pay-off (in my opinion) at the end!!! There were a few good, isolated quotes, but they were all things I've thought about already b/c I'm a therapist and those are the types of metaphores, lessons, etc., that I use in my work. Summary: I did not enjoy the process nor the outcome of reading this book.

I enjoyed the story but there was something about the POV that bugged me a bit. Overall, a good read.

It was okay. Her books seem almost the same with just a little bit different story line.
