An amazing travel story that follows a couple as they find themselves wandering further and further from the trappings of Western colonization in a downward spiral of relationships and self. Well worth the read.

Excellent book with characters you really care about. The holocaust is always difficult to read but I did enjoy this book.

Mercedes is tough but not stupid-sassy, which I am grateful for (there's too many characters like that out there). Story wasn't bad, just wish that the cover wasn't so embarrassing. What's up with these kind of covers anyway?

Since we already know she is a best selling author with Lovely Bones we know this memoir has at least some sort of happy ending. She went through a great deal in her life and came out the other side. I love stories about people who have persevered despite extreme adversity. But it's not Lovely Bones by any means.

it's shakespheare's hamlet...but with a kennel instead of denmark, a vet instead of polonius, and a special breed of dog instead of the actor's troupe. no crazy ophelia, unless she was represented by one of the dogs. dreamlike writing & descriptions, chronology jumps around. lovely but sort of flat. only the mute hamlet character seemed well fleshed although he was doing inexplicable things too.

The Broken Blue Line is a book that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. I love mysteries with suspense, and a little bit of romance thrown in for some smiles and laughs. I have to say that The Broken Blue line did not disappoint me. I found the characters very endearing and able to appreciate them. I did find myself confused when I first started reading the book. I was getting the characters confused. The Broken Blue Line is about Internal Affairs and crooked cops. Those styles of books are always very interesting reads. When I read books like this I always visualize it in real life and not just being fiction. Most of these books I feel are based on some actual facts. Turner is a memeber of IA and soon becomes the focus of an investigation. I found it interesting how the members of his squad were divided about him. Turner's partner and friend, Reggie and Miller are the ones who want to help Turner prove his innocence and at the same time capture the real cop that is their prime suspect. Reggie is the one that doesn't mind breaking the rules and circumvention authority to get to the truth. Miller is the wise craking one that doesn't like authority. Turner, Reggie and Miller work well together and make the best IA team even though the one boss hates them. I hope to read more books by Connie Dial.

I actually would have given this 3 1/2 stars. I listened to this and it was fun to listen to but a little heavy on disasters. I mean could ALL of that really happen to one little lady in the Arizona territories?
I rarely read nonfiction, but I loved this book. I originally heard the author speak on NPR's Weekend Edition, and I was very moved by the piece. It discusses the realities of the Welfare System in the US and follows the lives of 3 women who received welfare. It made me want to read more nonfiction. It was amazing.
As for creep factor, Enclave certainly had it! If you don't like bodies being hacked and slashed, and once human things gulping down warm chunks of meat from their newly dead companions...then... well...sorry! I enjoyed the descriptions of a once functioning world from the eyes of a girl who had always lived underground. And if you're into fight scenes, this book had plenty to keep u entertained. Will definitely read the next!

Kind of sappy. Definitely not for everybody. It was good for some interesting discussions about the possibility of "heaven" and redemption and forgiveness, if you have enough interested parties!
