Sweet love story, poorly written, edited but I could not help myself from getting involved with the characters. The main character Michael was well developed--I was pleasantly surprised. I also enjoyed the descriptions of Newport, RI which I love to visit. This was a free kindle book, I thought it would be a steamy diversion but it was a love story, court drama, bad guys/good lawyer book. I didn't even mind that the steam was G rated.

Thinking today is often plagued with complex ideological conflicts, often with no clear framework for reasoning. PT frames the complexities into "dynamic tensions," all of which are explored through two useful lenses, governance and innovation. The overall tenor of the book is set in a "both/and" rather than an "either/or" style of thinking. Anyone who is grappling with ordering the chaotic world to act force for positive change as should read this book.

My second time reading this book, and I found it suffered a bit. Several years ago i read it and fell in love with the wonderful retelling of famous fairy tales. I still find the concept of the story innovative, but my patience with the characters' almost constant bickering wore thin. I found Card's treatment of women strange and the discussion of magic and witchcraft vs. natural intuition and feminism in general was weird. Baba Yaga is still great, though, and I would still recommend the book to lovers of retold fairy tales.

In spite of Lahiri following Gogol / Nikhil all way down to the end, (whom I don’t see very much interesting), my heart is fully with Ashima: “she who is limited”. Opening chapter with her giving birth, is a brilliant start, as it’s also her new birth in US after another rebirth when she marry in Culcutta: “her last moments as Ashima Bhadori, before becoming Ashima Ganguli”, (wonderful description). When ever comes to Ashima, Lahiri is more honest and delicate in details, more flowing, fluent and believable, as if she herself has been lived Ashima’s hidden pains in solitude with such an unexampled forbearance. For me Namesake is Ashima’s journey from Calcuta to Cambridge (US) and back to Calcutta, a journey of 33 years of differ and diverse, of living “limited”. I like the distinction between petname (daknam) and goodname (bhalonam), one for intimates one for officials. Though Gogol changes his name to Nickil, Lahiri keeps calling him Gogol to the end (p.291) what Ashima and Ashoke do. Seems Lahiri is also part of the family, as it’s supposed that only family members would use petname. Apart from too much bla bla on foods, transport and many other unnecessary scenes and details (almost one third of the novel), feel very much familiar with Namesake! From now on, when ever I need to define “cultural differences” I would love to say: “In Bengali, a finger can also mean fingers, a toe, toes!” It would be a big regret if I haven’t read Namesake. With a big thank to Naomi for her recommendation.
This book was a little too short and sweet to be super-compelling. But it was certainly a nice little book! I imagined Ian McEwan writing the whole thing with a wry smile on his face. And for some reason, I loved the part when Clive gets gum on his shoe.
I really dislike the cover of this book and hope the innards are much better. Well, I only got about halfway through this collection before returning it to the library--and based on what I read, I'd give it about 3 1/4 stars. Overall, it seemed a little too disembobied for the likes of me. I'm not a big fan of disembobied narratives. I'm too busy hyperventilating inside of bodies.
Here is a book that covers (in real detail) a number of subjects. There is the Morman part. The writing forgery bit, which is excellent. Of course the Emily Dickinson history. I found this by chance (I collect Dickinson books) and was totally suprised by the great writing and full research the author did. And then amazing to find out that it is a true story.

interesting read, but a bit boring at times. i thought also that it had an absurd amount of typos for a book in its 5th edition. maybe this shows that i dont know the publishing world. there is alot of interesting information about eastern religions. a interesting read for engineering geeks such as myself.
Enjoyable quick read... the characters grew up in Naperville, Indiana, the author grew up in Naperville coincidence? I think not :) Can't wait to go see the movie first weekend in May!

A great read! I maybe enjoyed Kite Runner a little bit more, because the info about Afghanistan was totally fresh to me. But this one is outstanding too.
