If I could write, which I can't, this is the style I would love to have. The ability to keep you laughing while provoking a lot of difficult themes is a very powerful way to address such a challenging topic like modern war. At least that is what I believe.

I have read all of her previous books and really enjoyed them. The characters are so quirkey, and I love the southern setting. I was sad to see this book end - can't wait for her next one.

My favorite Kundera novel (his first!). A paragon of understated, thoughtful prose. Combine that with a taut plot that routinely surprises the most cynical of prognosticators (that would be me); and Kundera's fearlessness in wrestling with The Big Human Issues, and we have something approaching Kundera's literary ideal, a subject on which he has written extensively (in nonfiction). It's clear to me that the author was influenced by Greek notions of tragedy--in particular, tragedy's inevitability and paradoxical manifestations (e.g. Oedipus Rex, sans Freudian themes). This book examines the nature of revenge, the inefficaciousness of human designs, the insanity of political bureaucracies, the passage of time, and the unreliability of memory, without the prose or plot ever losing its light—almost flighty—forward momentum. A gentle, ambivalent novel. Added bonus: Nostalgia (imaginary in my case) for mid-century Czech pastoralia. Think verdant countryside under gray skies, vodka-swilling shepherds, lovelorn teenage girls in cheap Soviet overcoats, Red Army soldiers starting fights in bars, and the lugubrious drift of accordian strains.
I am suprised at how much I loved The False Princess. The story was fantastic, and the characters were great! Especially Sinda and Kiernan. There was so much going on in the story, and it was so entertaining!
I found this follow-up to The Name of the Wind to be a big disappointment. The first third or so of the book is STILL about Kvothe's university years, and the rest he's lost in the woods. I kept thinking I would get to see a Bad Ass Kvothe, but no. It's also disappointing because I thought Rothfuss would polish his style a bit, but there are several really rough passages, awkward phrasings, and RIDICULOUS simile / metaphor. He has a simile about every other line. I'll probably read the third one only because I feel like by reading 1 and 2 I've committed myself. I will say this, Rothfuss occasionally hits the mark with an excellent quotable line; I just wish the whole of the novel was that strong!
A strategy guide that is written in a narrative journal type format. Entertaining, informative, and original.

I don't think that anyone before Atwood wrote a story from this perspective. I really cared about these characters.

As with all Laurie King books, this one is very well written. I just couldn't get into it though. She is without Holmes in this book and it just didn't give me the warm fuzzies that I get in their interactions; however awkward and distant. It did keep my interest though and I am hoping that Holmes sticks around in her future adventures.

The Moomintroll books have always brought me a great deal of satisfaction. They are wonderfully creative, imaginative, and have great story telling. Wonderful for kids of any age.

I don't think I'm a great fan of Sue Monk Kidd, but this was an ok book. It's about a woman going through her mid-life crisis - happy but boring marriage. She takes a break and goes to visit her ailing mother and while there has an affair with a novice monk (is that the correct term?), who's trying to decide if he should enter the monastery or not. The book is about both of them reexamining their lives and finding out what's important.
