Another take on the familiar "three little orphans" theme, but surprisingly well-written and rather richly plotted. Upper elementary students and young teens should find a compelling read and an interesting new series. Three children are shipped from orphanage to orphanage for ten years, coping as best they can and always sticking together. They feel sure their parents are not actually dead. The day they refuse to be adopted by a horrid woman, they are sent to yet another place, but this new home is very strange, in the middle of a blighted forest across a mysterious lake. Time travel, a mystery, a wealth of fantasy characters, and good writing make this a promising new series beginning.

This is our Book Club selection for the month of March and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It details history during WWII that I have never read or been taught before. A great history lesson, but an even greater lesson in forgiveness...when we truly forgive, even if we have not been asked for forgiveness by the offender, then our hearts can truly begin to mend. Looking forward to Book Club next week!

Perfect drama <3
Something I've always wanted to read, but haven't until now. A real eye-opener about how it really was during slavery.
Amy Fleury's use of language here is amazing. All her poems are interwoven with plants, animals and land-rhythms of the Midwest while zinging you with the smart and sassy insights of a woman who knows what time it is and how to invite you to the picnic. Do come!
