A compilations of the letters Charlie, a high school sophomore, sends to an anonymous "friend" which document his thoughts and feelings during the school year. Such a good book, very "Catcher in the Rye". More about thinking and feeling than a captivating plot, and one of my new favorites.

A haunting classic, and the perfect example of dualism. They are two opposite men, but when they can't be kept two separate entities, the borders between them start fading.

Good stories. I think this book hit me a little too late though. I would have liked it a lot better if I had read it as a kid. But I still can't help but love the grandmother and all of her crazy shenanigans.

A brilliant rolemodel as a child. I could only wish I knew that much, and it made me look for more knowledge!

More like 3.5 stars. I enjoyed the book and learning Pyper's story. There were a few areas that felt like the could have been developed better, especially the ending. It all came together a little cleanly for me. That said, I read the book in a about a day because I enjoyed it so much.

Wow, what a phenomenal book. Before I even read any of Scott’s work I was impressed with his interview in Passion and Craft in Comparative Politics (eds. Munck & Snyder), and then I saw him give a lecture about Zomia, the only area of the world where people remain relatively and intentionally stateless. This is the first book of his that I’ve read in its entirety, and I loved it. I found his critique of hegemony and false consciousness especially useful, but above all what I love is that the text is an example of a culturalist/constructivist argument that is entirely convincing.

** spoiler alert ** By far my favorite Austen book. There is nothing more romantic to me than the idea of the constancy of love so of course I love this story and think it is endlessly romantic. I love that Austen wrote about an "older" (by the standards of that time) heroine who thought her bloom was over and her chance at love/happiness gone. I felt Anne Elliot's pain throughout the novel as she watched her love flirting with other women, moving on with his life- all the while knowing how much he must dislike and resent her. And then to throw into the mix, Mr. Elliot, a cousin who seems so perfect and could very well be her last chance of marrying well, to test the constancy of her love. The letter from Captain Wentworth to Anne Elliot (and his method of delivering it to her) could just as well have happened to me I was so excited as I read this entire scene. I just adore this poignant love story.

This should not have taken me as long as it did but library books have due dates and this did not.

Christian perspective on poverty, development, social injustice, and a theology capable of a faithful response. A wonderful book from someone experienced in Christian community development.
