This is definitely an LDS read. The one thing I liked about this book is how it shows that good Mormon girls can make it in today's world, and not just by being your traditional stay-at-home moms and good wives. Those things are obviously important. But the thought that Lauren could make it as a designer in the world of New York and still obtain her values was interesting to me. I realize the book is fiction, but still an interesting concept. There are a some good things to take away from the story as well. Other than all that, the story was actually just so-so for me.

Almost didn't read it based on the irksome cover, but I'm glad I did. The Good: Sex, sex, sex The Bad: Sex, sex, sex View it as an erotic sample of the author's naughty writings and all will be well. Analyze it for well-developed romance and pout. This is an enjoyable buffer book. Rest your brain cells inbetween great books and count the orgasms.

A little slow, but still a good read. Ubik throws you right into the middle of the story without explaining much of the environment or terms in the book, so it's a little confusing at first. The book finished up rather nice though.

** spoiler alert ** I for one, like the Jodi Picoult formula. You know what you are getting into when you read another one of her books. The characters and problems are different, but they are as familiar as an old friend you haven't seen in a while. I liked the fact that this story was told from the various perspectives of the principal characters involved. It was a way to know things you wouldn't know otherwise. (Potential Spoilers follow). I also began to suspect early on that they were told "post mortem" and wasn't surprised at the ending of the book at all. In reflecting on the experience, kudos for the ingenuity. All the way through the book I wanted to throttle the mother--turning on her best friend and risking having her child misinterpret her actions--neither of those outcomes is worth the potential of settlement money.
