I list this book in my "currently reading" shelf because I am constantly picking it up and reading a few pages. This book is the memoirs and letters of Jim Elliot as put together by his wife Elisabeth. I first read this book as preparation for a mission trip to Poland. It was required reading. At that time I was just beginning my faith journey, so much of what is in this book just absolutely blew my mind. In many ways it still does, though I understand his persepctive much better now. Through this book, Jim has become one of my heroes. His insight into faith and walking with God are amazing. His letters to family are inspiring, and his example of sacrificing himself for the growth of the kingdom is nothing short of amazing when viewed through the lens of today's church. I know there are others who have done the same...I have not read many of their stories. I hold this as one of my favorite books of all time.
Most meaningful book I've ever read
I am thoroughly hooked on this series and this one did not disappoint. My only quibble is that there were some loose ends at the end-- usually her books end rather more neatly resolved. Perhaps there is a sequel that will pick up some of these characters? There will certainly be another Jackson Brodie novel, as the last moments of this one suggest...

A layman's book of some human genetic diseases and the evolutionary reasons we still have them. I love Darwinian Medicine, and this was a good layman's book. A good enough read, interesting material, although I can't believe he closed with the Aquatic Ape theory. FCOL. The book lost a star because of that.

I don't even know what to say about this book. It's truly heart breaking. I felt so shocked at the end of this book, even though towards the end you could predict that something was going to happen. (sorry if that sounds vague, but I don't want to give too much away). Even though it was a sad book, I feel like the author did a brillant job at delivering a powerful message about the effect that hatred can have.

HILARIOUS!!!! This is a MUST read!
I recalled having heard a review of this book in NPR, and was happy to finally see it on the shelf at my library. Unfortunately, I didn't even want to finish it. Though I enjoyed some descriptions of life in Istanbul, as a Turk or an Armenian-American, for the most part the characters seemed too sentimental and soap-opera-like. This may just have been due to the translation. But the characters were more annoying than engaging.
