This quote from Dorothy Parker sums up my feelings on this book: "This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force." That's exactly what I did when I got to the completely predictable (and incredibly disappointing) "surprise" ending. I really can't believe I persevered that long.

This book could have been so much more but still as a love letter to Sly Stone it does a good job. The author reminds you where Sly stands in the pantheon of music legends. It's easy to forget he pretty much created funk/rock wrote a dozen or so classic songs, created the first great integrated large rock band among other achievements all in the space of about 5 very fertile years 67 - 72. It's hard to believe bands such as the Chili Peppers, Earth Wind and Fire and Prince would sound like they do today without Sly's legacy. Still the author mentions Sly's self destruction through drug use but never quite figures out why Sly has so completely removed himself from the public eye.

Razor-sharp teeth, ceramic bones, and a need for extremes are some of the characteristics of those who belong to Special Circumstances. Tally has made the transition from Ugly...to Pretty...to Special. Along with her friend Shay, they are out to find and destroy the New Smoke, before its residents pass out the cure to the remainder of the Pretties. The Specials are the ones in charge of keeping the Uglies in their end of town, and keeping the Pretties...well...stupid! The cure could bring all of that crashing to a halt. In a twist of events, Tally finds herself following her boyfriend Zane, still a Pretty, to the location of the New Smoke. But what she finds there may change her perception of her hometown...and her life...in a matter of moments. Not as good as the first book in the trilogy, and I wasn't completely impressed with the ending. Tally didn't seem to know what she wanted, going back and forth, taking one side and then another.

WOW! Another great from Jonathan Tropper! There are two more of his I haven't read yet...I'm going to take my time and enjoy them!

Yes yes yes...I'm back to my edge of the seat, can't wait to finish the book and see what happens feeling with the Alex Cross series. Thank you, James Patterson! Once again, I love his fast pace, jump around style! This one was definitely a page turner, I didn't want to put the book down because I wanted to keep reading to find out how it all will fit together and play out. Alex Cross's archnemesis is at it again! Kyle Craig is back and he's out to kill Cross this time. He's planning to finish the game. Of course, it happens just when you least expect it...just as Cross and Bree are happy and getting married. Not only has Kyle Craig kept himself in the fore front of Cross's thoughts with his periodic calls in the past, but he has strategically placed himself in Cross's life this time. Think Face-Off, the movie. Remember how the characters that John Travolta and Nicholas played switched lives due to a surgical procedure? Kyle Craig, the Mastermind, starts off the story line with a similar procedure. He has taken over an undercover FBI agent's life and undergone surgery to make himself look like the agent, thus allowing him to return to the FBI and work alongside Alex Cross while solving the sniper murders in DC. There are two different investigations going on during this book, the sniper assassinations and the numbers murder. Kyle Craig works both to his advantage as he tries to get under Cross's skin and at the same time trying to win him over as FBI Agent Max Siegel. With all the plots going on in the story, in the end it all ties together and I loved it. It's definitely a must read for all you Alex Cross fans. Enjoy!
I'm about to reach a fork in the road, so to speak. In a couple years I'll retire (with a lowercase 'r') with twenty years of service in the Army. So...this book's title jumped right out at me. WSIDwML smelled appetizing on the shelf. I'll let you know how it tastes. 31 July 2011 A worthwhile read for those of us looking ahead to a big career change. The book consists of personal stories of people who took the leap to change their line of work for the sake of happiness and fulfillment, some of them in the middle of successful careers. Some succeed. Some fail. All learn something about themselves. For me, about to leave the military after twenty years of service to enter an economy in shambles, the book is a source of useful information about what others' experiences have been.

Warning! Major book addiction ahead! :) This is the first in a fantastic medical mystery series. Its unconventional characters, small town setting, and fast-paced plot make it an engagingly edgy book. You'll find yourself needing to read the next book, so buy the first two together if you can.

Katherine Lanpher writes about her move from Minnesota to New York to be Al Franken's sidekick on Air America. This book was a quick read with some interesting stories about her life and the turn of events that led to her move to New York. There was nothing about this book that knocked me out, but there were some interesting stories about her life.
