After loving "Stover at Yale", I thought that it would be only fair to read this Harvard book. We'll see how it stacks up...

It's like reading about two train wrecks and seeing them pick up the pieces. I ended up skimming most of the book, just because I wanted to see how it ended, but I couldn't really stand to read the whole thing. Also skimmed because of the fact that there was a lot of swearing that I could have done without.

Just can't get enough of Barbara Delinsky!! I've never been disappointed in one of her novels yet. "To her family, Natalie Seebring is a woman who prizes appearances: exquisitely mannered, a supportive wife, and head of a successful wine-producing enterprise. So when she announces plans to marry a vineyard employee mere months after the death of her husband of fifty-eight years, her son and daughter are stunned. Faced with their disapproval, Natalie decides to write a memoir. Olivia Jones is a dreamer, living vicariously through the old photographs she restores. She and her daughter, Tess, cling to the fantasy that a big, happy family is out there just waiting for them. When Natalie hires Olivia to help with her memoir, a summer at Natalie's vineyard by the sea seems the perfect opportunity to live out that fantasy. But all is not as it seems. As the illusion of an idyllic existence comes crashing headlong into reality, the lives of these two women, parallel in so many ways, become a powerful and moving story."

There were moments reading this book where I wanted to stand on my subway seat, point to the page and say "this woman is brilliant." Her ability as a reader is astounding, and her conclusions are inspiring. Highly recommended for anyone interested in thinking. Which should be everyone.

This book takes the reader through Steve Prefontaine's running career season by season. The book has a lot of information but isn't particularly engaging. It doesn't provide much insight into the man behind the american records. Kenny Moore's relatively few pages about Steve Prefontaine in "Bowerman and the Men of Oregon" do a better job of explaining who Pre was and what it was like to know him.

This was fiction but closely resembled the life of Laura Bush. Enjoyed it. Gave you a feeling of what kind of person she may be and her husband GW. She is portrayed as a really nice person, much like what you've heard. GW comes off not so great. He gets a lot of bad press. Much like you've heard. The book just fills in intimate details of their lives.

Pretty good book, easy to read. I enjoyed the casual reading until the last chapter "A Rage for Justice". Then I had to make a few notes (4 pages). A very good chapter!
