Very pretty writing - if a little overblown (I don't mind it at all here). A little repetitive compared to earlier memoirs.

I liked this book quite a bit, and maybe should have rated it higher. It's just that they can't all be four stars. I read this because I wanted to see what else Billie Letts wrote besides....(I can't think of the name of the book. Natalie Portman played the main character in the movie- a pregnant girl who is stranded at a small town WalMart and becomes the common sense girl of the town.), and I liked the plot in this one more. I like the mystery of why someone disappears from their hometown and reappears all patched and mended years later.

Yay! A book with character who spells her name the same way I do! Woot!
my sister gave me this, so i expected it to be typical chick-lit fare, but i actually really enjoyed it.
My in-laws introduced me to this author. She writes about true crimes, this one was especially interesting because it is about the Jenn Corbin murder in ATlanta that I remember well, it happened only a few years ago. I found it fascinating to know the inside stories from both sides of the family. Definitely recommend it.

Recommend by a blog. So far I'm enjoying this tale set in LA's indie music scene which features among other strange characters a lead singer who works at the Zoo and kidnaps a Kangaroo.

This was an interesting story about a female doctor, named Dr. Singh, who is sent deep into the Amazon jungle by her employer, a big pharmaceutical company, for two reasons. One, to track the progress in the development of a new fertility drug, and two, to find out the events surrounding the death of her coworker and friend, who was sent before her, for the same purpose. The researcher in charge of the fertility drug research down there happens to be Dr. Singh's former professor, Dr. Swenson, who is living with a jungle tribe. She is very elusive and the most interesting character in the book. From the time Dr. Singh arrives in Brazil, she is faced with many physical and mental challenges while pursuing her objectives. There are several events in this book that happen that make for a great story, and a terrific book. But I chose to give this book three stars, instead of 4, because some of the events that happened simply did not make any sense to me - I didn't understand the reasoning behind the characters actions, in some cases. And one of the final events left me with negative feelings for the main character, which is a shame because it didn't have to be written that way. It's almost as if that part was thrown in there, so that there would be more to discuss, which really irritated me. But at any rate, others may disagree, and that is only part of the reason why this would be a good book discussion book - there are several issues worth discussing in this book!
I have a hard time rating James Patterson. I like his plots, he sometimes has great characters, but I'm not really a fan of his writing style. I will continue to read what he writes and I'm sure I'll read Kiss the Girls soon, but I think I need to read a couple books by different authors in between Patterson novels.
This books tell the story of Cancer, the C-word. The emperor of all maladies. The author and you make a journey from the ancient egyptian time to 2009 and he tells you about all the discoveries, the wrong conclusions, and the starting of the public war of cancer. He also tell you about his patients, and their battle with the disease. It's a big read, but it's very much worth your effort.
