The Dead Boys was a very quick read. I read it in about 4 hours. It was definitely a young adult book. Though there was no romance or even a girl in the book, it was still a very interesting storyline. Tree grows by sucking the radiation out of the river. Accidentally comes across a drowning boy and realizes the energy of the boy is even better than the radiation, therefore, lures other boys through the years to suck their energy as well, but making sure not to kill its victims. Then Teddy moves to town and he's a perfect candidate. Without spoiling it, I can tell you that the ending is the best part. I'd recommend this book to anyone; young or old.

If I were serious about homesteading, this would be the first book I buy. So much information from a reliable author.

One of the all time great books on the subject of expeditions to Mount Everest. Jon Krakauer is not only a mountaineer of repute but his writing skills are extraordinary. This book is written like a thriller and it is hard to put down. The book is about the disastrous Everest expedition of 1996, where as many as 13 climbers, assisted by expert mountaineers as guides, die in the vicious storms that lash the high altitudes of Mount Everest. Krakauer survives to write about it. Two of the guides Rob hall and Scott Fisher die as well. Krakauer captures the drama, pathos and the human condition beautifully. A must read for anyone interested in the subject of mountaineering, Everest expeditions and just good writing!

Amazing book. My fourth grade teacher read this aloud to us and I was addicted. I recommend this to anyone.
The Giant Rat of Sumatra was a quick, 193-page read. It’s a kid’s book, by Newberry-winner Sid Fleischman. I’ve enjoyed Fleischman’s books in the past, and I generally enjoy reading children’s books, but I felt like this one wasn’t as good as previous works of Fleischman’s. It felt a little predictable to me, and also a little lacking in detail. San Diego in 1846 is Mexican territory, and Mexico is at war with the United States, which is a problem for Shipwreck, cabin boy of the pirate ship, Giant Rat of Sumatra, which has just anchored in San Diego’s harbor. See, Shipwreck is from Boston, and he’s trying to get home. He had been to sea with his stepfather, but a nasty storm wrecked their ship, drowned the stepfather, stuck him with a crew of pirates, and gave him his nickname. Oh, and he’s carrying around two giant emeralds and trying to dodge Mexican banditos. It’s certainly full of action, and is a great book for entertaining late elementary-age kids. If I’m ever in a position to recommend a good children’s book to somebody, this one will get some consideration from me.
Jodi’s latest book is about the nineteen minutes that elapse during a school shooting in a New Englad high school in a post-9/11 world. The book involves several characters that have played big roles in previous books, so that was nice, to be able to get a little more of their stories and understand a bit more about their motivations, having already seen them in other stories. Like most of her books, she doesn’t shy away from the tough questions that people ask in these kind of situations, and while the book ends with some resolution, there are clearly no easy answers when you’re talking about things like school violence. I really enjoyed this one, despite the tough topics.

There's not much I can say about this book that hasn't already been said. It's a classic that's been studied and picked apart over and over again. I'm sure it's been read by just about every high school student and considering it's full of symbolism and themes, I can see why. I think after having seen the movie recently I appreciate the book even more.

Easily my favorite book. And I read it BEFORE I saw the movie, so I swear it isn't a John Cusack thing. In short, Rob Gordon is me. Well, if I were a boy. And lived in London. And was in my 30s. But ... he is obsessed with music in what I think is a wonderful way. He examines his relationships with music and women after a recent breakup, and discovers more about himself than what he set out to find. It is about love and loss, killer records, crazy friends, top five lists, and life. I seriously heart this book. I can't even give it a decent review ... it just NEEDS to be read.

This book dragged a bit for me. All necessary for the over all plot, but it seemed to be almost all set up for the rest of the story, and very little action. However, like the entire series, keep going it's worth the effort. Also, like the entire series, buy it in hard cover as the thickness of the book causes the spine on the paperback to split.
