There is a whole series of these. All start with a number and go in order from One for the Money all the way to Twelve Sharp. #13 is on the way! This series is about a female bounty hunter who should be anything but. I laugh out loud in these... and anyone who I have loaned them to to read have become instantly hooked! Loads of fun!

Loved this book. The movie was pretty good to. Great weaving of the past and present.
This is nothing like all the movies that have been made. It is one big political cartoon in text format. Nothing about Britain's history in King Arthur's day is safe from Twain's sarcastic wit. Fun to read. I am reading to my children and I LOL and they don't get it. Again, FUN read! Twain is really hard on the Church of England, but realizes through the Yankee that the people don't know anything else or another way of life. But he is bound and determined to bring them to the 19th Century with all its advancements and dangers.

Hm... okay Demons and an artist who owns an art gallery. Yep, I had to read this one. It was a moral imperative! Brynn is the artist and was kidnapped by Keegan and his brothers, all half demons. She is a wanted commodity in their world all because of a long ago ancestor who dared to defy a council who oversees dimensions. She is the key to awakening a army of zombies. Keegan falls for Brynn and together they try to find away to thwart evil. Evil Keegan is very familiar with. I have to say that I did have a hard time connecting to Keegan and Brynn at the beginning of the story. They fell hard and fast and I think I needed more character building before that happened, especially since this is book 1 in this series. I did like the brother's chemistry with each other. Fighting because they loved each other made it seem like they were family and they were loyal to each other. I think I would have enjoyed more of that. However, as the story went along and you really get into the adventure, I finally did begin to connect to the main characters. By the end, I really liked Brynn and am curious about the next scrape she gets into. Yes, there is a set up for the next book, but this one is complete. No cliffie! I give this story 3 stars. Despite the beginning, I did enjoy the ending. I am looking forward to the next installment of the Demons of Infernum.

Pretty book. Enjoyed the second and the third stories, not so much the first one.

Some of the poems were beautiful, and Sylvia Plath is obviously a worthy topic. Yet, ultimately, this made me want to read her work, rather than someone else's interpretation of what she or the people around her may have been thinking. (May Bookclub)
I actually got the translation by Peter Constantine.

Well, this was a disappointment to me. The writing was...different. It felt to me as if here was a guy trying to be thought of as a biker, and verbally putting on the leathers and patches and so forth, but not quite making it. His word choice was awkward and pseudo-real, and at such a level of superficiality that I found myself skipping large chunks of it as I neared the end. I've read many first person accounts from people who are first bikers, second some other profession, and only later came to writing, and I've never read anything quite so dull as this. He says almost nothing about the context, people, conditions, or any of the details of his rides. That having been said, I don't think it is really intended to be a journalistic account. Rather, in style and format it is really a coffee table book, mostly comprised of photographs. The idea, to have arial photos of the same areas he photographed while riding is an interesting one. I'm not much of a photographer, and I don't know the finer points of how best to use light and so forth, but the photos were mildly interesting to me. Many are not labeled, though, and there was no way to see how they were connected to his rides. That might have been photos taken of anywhere and anywhen, and without the context of rich writing detail, they just didn't seem to matter as much as they might have otherwise. And, like his writing, they seemed impersonal. Few of them included people, and I saw none that included photos of himself. It has been said that a picture is worth a thousand words, but that has not been my experience unless the picture is connected in some way to the experience. Too bad...I had really hoped to enjoy this book, but I felt no connection with it while reading, or afterwards.

This is a fascinating account of the Chicago World's Fair, held at the turn of the century and one of the greatest spectacles of the time. Side by side with the story of how the great fair came into being, the author interweaves the story of infamous serial killer, Dr. H. H. Holmes, who lived in Chicago at the time of the Fair and enticed young women into his "hotel," where he murdered them in various grisly ways. The book is wonderful at evoking the Gilded Age, in all its vainglory, pomp, and boundless optimism. The dark side of this "gilded age," of course--represented so effectively by the nightmarish Holmes--is the appalling poverty and the oppressive working conditions of the time.
