I was totally unprepared for how much I would love this book. In addition to being immensely readable, as all Christie books are, it had a clever and surprising ending; and if I'd suspected how it would turn out (which I didn't), I don't think that would have marred my appreciation.

This is kind of in the same vein as that crap I read sometimes like The Penetrator, or Nick Carter. The stories are really cookie cutter. The skinhead does some bad things, maybe beats up hippies or something, he does something else bad, and then he gets caught and he goes to jail. The next story he gets out, finds that being a skinhead now means being a suedehead (....oh i was a good lay, good lay), which is like a skinhead with hair, does some bad stuff, gets arrested. Guess what happens in the third book? He gets out of jail, does some more bad stuff and goes back to jail. Kind of repetitive, but still fun.
Still not sure about it... I am reading it in a Portuguese translation, and I feel the translator didn't do such a good job.

This book is fantastic, bringing true literature to a graphic setting. The characters' were very distinct, and fit them perfectly. I read the book as a tale of conflicting moralities, different views of good conflicting and negative results occurring in consequence. Each of the characters has a very unique idea of what good is, and each is trying to act based on those ideas, yet these actions conflict and through the attempt to do good they end up doing much wrong. Ozymandias, or Adrian Veidt, has a morality based on the idea that the needs of the many out way the needs of the few... or in this case the needs of everyone out way the needs of a few million. Rorschach, as close as we get to a protagonist in the novel, does what he has to to quash evil absolutely, without question, and without compromise. This of course puts him on a mindset of retaliation, if evil has been inflicted upon others, evil will be inflicted back upon itself. Dr. Manhattan does not believe that good or evil actually exist, that they are constructs of the human mind and on a cosmic scale have little or no purpose. In the end the only thing that keeps him doing anything resembling right is his emotion, the little he has left. The comedian is a kind of anarchist, believing that humans will do anything for themselves, and adheres to his belief strictly. The Night Owl II believes that the process, not the outcome, is what matters. He is noble about everything he goes into. Through these differing views of what is right the story occurs, which involves much in the way of death. It is a fascinating examination on differing ideas of morality and how those ideas interact with one another when applied. I loved it also because it was awesome.

I just love how Frost writes. Of course bones and Cat are my fav but she just makes me fall for everyone she writes about. Chance is hot, charming, and delicious. It was a nice appetizer to tied me over for before the next night huntress adventure.

Now, I love Augusten Burroughs with the heat of many hot suns. I liked Sellevision - it was good, funny, whatever - but honestly, if I had read this before Dry, I don't know if I would be the Augusten devotee I am today. I may read it again sometime though because you never know.
We tend to ignore the challenges of children living in poverty in the so-called developed world. This is a frank portrait of the effects.

I have read passages of this for classes in psych etc... but I want to read the whole book.
I loved this whole series and would recommend it. I agree that it is a slow read, in that it's meant to be a stroll through the lives of these wonderful people of Botswana. Mma Ramotswe is so perfect in how she views life. I have to say I listened to the first seven books on cd and I was quite hesitant to read this one, but I couldn't wait for the cd version to come out. Listening to this series is so much better. The names of the places, the people and the dialect are captured brilliantly. I look forward to listening to this book over again.

Este es mi libro favorito cuando estoy desesperado por algo divertido que hacer con los niños. Es fabuloso!
