Believe it or not, I've finally finished this book! I began it in November of 2006 and, partly because it's nonfiction, read it in fits and spurts between then and now. Clark's writing is astonishing (every time I picked it up again, I was amazed to hear this woman from the 1950s still speaking loud and clear in her own voice) and she weaves together the history of Breton with the life cycle of the delicious Belon oyster (les plates)

poorly written in the way i didn't like twilight as much as the other books: i get it. you love her. you can't imagine why she loves you...etc. etc. move on! not to say i didn't enjoy reading Ed's point of view after knowing him so well from the other books. ;) As a friend said on my facebook page: ahh, Edward. i miss you. hee hee.

I've been waiting years for this book and it was well worth it. While it a few pages for me to remember the details of the Old Kingdom, I really enjoyed learning more about the Abhorsens. It also explained much about what happened in the years before Sabriel. Clariel grew up as the daughter of a premier goldsmith. But her mother had little interest in her. Clariel had no goldsmithing talent but she loved animals and the land and wanted nothing more than to live in the forest. But when her mother is called to the city, Clariel must go as well. She discovers that when she gets angry, she becomes a berserk, a fighting talent to be reckoned with. She's learning Charter magic but she never really thought about it before. Then she crosses Free Magic and is seduced by a Free Magic being. Suddenly there is free magic overwhelming her Charter magic. Add Moggett to the mix and you have a super powerful free magic berserk running around who really only wants to be alone in the forest and if she has to go through an army to get there, she will. It was a fans imaging story on multiple levels and Clariel was a great character.

This one had been sitting unread on my shelf for many years. Globe-trotting journalist loses a coin toss to his brothers and as a result has to go out a find a bride (so as to create grandchildren in order to please his supposedly ailing mother). Then he finds himself in love with the owner of the local lingerie shop. A few semi-wacky hi-jinks follow on the path to happily ever after. I do love me some happy endings! Apparently, this is also the first in a series featuring the three bachelor brothers. I actually enjoyed this one enough that I may seek out the others at some point.
every woman should read this... or at least read chapter 5. it's good to know.
Hunter is a 13 year old living with his abusive foster mother and three sisters. Things were going pretty well for him until his foster father dies. His foster mother becomes INCREASINGLY more abusive towards him, the bully at school raises the weekly fee, and because he can't stand it anymore he prays to that guardian angel he saw when he was four. But did he really see him? Is he imagining things or is his guardian angel really solving his problems? But do guardian angels seriously email people and scare a girl half to death? Hmm...curiouser and curiouser don't you think? I really liked this book! I would say it's a quick, light read, but even thought it's 177 pgs long, there is nothing light about it. It can get intense, unpredictable, crazy, and even pull at your heart strings at times. Many of the things that happened I just could never have predicted! It was just so surprising and sad!!! I really, really REALLY wanted things to end differently for him, but oh well. You will feel so sad for Hunter and by the time you've read the first ten pages, you'll be cheering for him and wanting him to just be happy. Trust me, it may start out slow but it gets intense then you just don't want to stop reading until you're finished and you find out what will happen with Hunter. I highly recommend this book so go out and get it now! Enjoy. :) From inside the book: The distant growl of a motorcycle engine wakes me up and I wonder if I'm going crazy. That's something I actually worry about a lot. Dr. Phil did this whole show on what kind of kids are prone to turn out bad and it was my biography. ..but when she says this, it's as if she reached into my chest and grabbed my heart. YOU WILL ENJOY READING THIS BOOK IF YOU LIKE: -reading about foster kids -guardian angels -awesome covers (If you notice on the back there are tire tracks!) -unforgettable stories -motorcycles -California -Florida -unpredictable stories -humor -psychos -evil people -page turners -tvandbookaddict.blogspot.com

This book is geared towards middle schoolers and older. However, it does have some rather graphic parts and does allude to one extra-marital encounter. That aside, it does a decent job of telling a side of WW2 that is not often told--how the residents of Great Britain were impacted by the war. My 12 year old read it first and then asked me to read it. I'm not sure if I would have recommended it to her, yet I am not sorry that she read it.
This review was posted at Under the Covers Victoria Dahl is usually one of my go-to authors for a light and sweet with a touch of hot contemporary romance. I've had this book on my TBR for a while now so I put my foot down and loaded it on my ipod so I could finally read it. And then it took me forever to get through it. Runaway groom, crazy bridezilla, paparazzis galore, and a hero with a sense of responsibility for everyone he meets? There were just too many crazies in this story for my taste. In a nutshell, Chloe Turner's fiance fakes his own death to supposedly avoid marrying her. He is then caught and now faces charges while the media is portraying Chloe Turner as the biggest bridezilla there ever was, which is the reason they say he would've rather fake his own death then marrying her. So Chloe is trying to run away from the media attention and paparazzis and goes away with her friend Jen to a little island getaway. Where she meets Max. Sexy diver, I think things are going great until his issues start surfacing. This man has a problem I had never even heard of. He feels the need to protect everyone he meets as if they are all his responsibility. His need for people to "be safe" can get on people's nerves, even though at the same time is cute. Even though I felt bad for Chloe and what she was going through, I just couldn't connect with her at all. The part about her I like the best was her actual interactions with Max and how they did manage to be perfect for each other. Each with their own set of crazy problems. Then there's Max, whom I actually liked well enough, even with his annoying issues. Until we get close to the end and he does something that really ticked me off. Won't tell you what so you read it yourself, but I just thought that Chloe managed to forgive that pretty easily. The side romance of Max's brother, Elliott, and Chloe's best friend, Jen, didn't really get to flourish much. I was happy to see that at the end things are left with a "they're dating and happy" instead of a "let's plan a double wedding" scenario. That was very believable considering they didn't really get to know each other well. So crazy? Yes. A bit out there? Absolutely! A must read? I wouldn't say so. If you want to try Victoria Dahl I'd recommend her Tumble Creek series or her Donovan Brothers series. PS: Old cover....way better for the story than the new cover!

Harlan Coben writes the tightest, funniest thrillers around. This one doesn't disappoint as he returns to Myron Bolitar and terrorism, genetics," justifiable" torture and more. Doesn't sound funny? Trust me.
This truly is a remarkable story. A baby elephant whose mother was slaughtered by poachers for ivory, shipped to America for sale as who knows what, bought out of pitty by a rancher that had been THE Marlboro Man, saved from dying, and was raised to be a friendly companion to Bob, the owner of the T Cross ranch just south of Colorado Springs gives the basis of this fascinating book. A must read to find the ending!
