This is a follow-up to Michael Byrnes's first book, "The Sacred Bones". In "The Sacred Bones", we left Charlotte Hennesey examining what was thought to be the bones of Jesus Christ. We find that Charlotte is dying from terminal cancer and DNA was extracted from the bones and injected into Charlotte. She goes into total remission and is "miraculously" cured. Rabbi Aaron Cohen, a descendent of the biblical Aaron, and his family have been the guardians of the Ark of the Covenant. A lttle "Raiders of the Lost Ark" music please. Rabbi Cohen wants to place the Ark on the Dome of the Rock to unleash its awesome power. Unfortunately Rabbi Cohn cannot touch the Ark because through the years his bloodline is not pure, and only one who is pure can touch the Ark. Charlotte, whose blood is now purified by the DNA of Jesus Christ, is kidnapped by the Rabbi. None of this however goes unnoticed by the Israelis and Muslims. Both sides are trying to figure out what is going on and how they can take advantage of it. The Catholic Church has also been a player since "The Sacred Bones" and continues in "The Sacred Blood". There is a priest who is a traitor to the Vatican, and also becomes a confidant of Charlotte. The showdown comes when Charlotte must open the Ark of the Covenant. The opening of the Ark may not be as dramatic as in "The Raiders of the Lost Ark", but does purport that it is something not to be fooled around with. This is a good read if not taken too seriously. There is some good biblical history in the book mixed in with a lot of suppositions.
