I didn't know what to expect when I went to read this, but once you start reading Twilight, you won't stop. I ended up reading all four books in ten days! Katherine Meyers is able to captivate the reader with her characters and storyline. Edward and Bella's love story is what what many young adults, especially girls like to read about and how people close to them are affected by their romance. Truly addicting!

I've never been much of a baker. However, I love Artisan Breads and my mission this winter is to master the 10 formulas in this book. Stay tuned!

I just finished this book this morning, and I LOVED it. I am reading this book for a lit circle unit that I'm running in a particularly challenging 7th grade classroom, and I didn't expect to get so much out of the book personally. I have found that it is rare to have characters change within a novel in believable ways -- especially in a piece of young adult literature. However, in Touching Spirit Bear, I really believed and cared about the main character's struggles, triumphs, and challenges. Unlike most books that I like, in which I identify strongly with the main character, I did not really see much of myself in the book's beginning. I was never an adolescent boy, I never have been in a juvenial detention center, and I have lots of loving and supportive people in my life. Actually, when I was reading this book, it reminded me much more of my brother and his violent outbursts when we were growing up together. I think that the anger that adolescent boys foster is a really terrible and confusing part of our society, and this book certainly opened my eyes to how that anger can manifest in many ways. Although I saw much more of the men in my life in the main character's anger, the healing process that he goes through is common to anyone's healing process -- victim or instigator of violence -- and I saw much of my own healing within the young boy's struggles and lessons. I would really recommend this book to anyone who interacts with adolecent boys, anyone who struggles with their own anger, and to anyone who has healed their wounds before -- this book will ring true for you.

This was the last book I read my last year in college (well, for class anyway). And what a way to end your college career. This is hands down one of the most touching and inspirational books I have ever read. EVERYone should read this book!

Another favorite. A quirky book about a city girl who goes to live with her country relatives, in the 1920's. Absolutely hilarious.
This is an eminently readable piece of historical fiction involving an American woman, a well to do lady living in Manhattan, who gets caught up in the early storm of the American Revolution. The story moves at a brisk pace and accurately reflects life at that time. It opens a window onto the rupture in American society that resulted from the war and introduces us to ordinary citizens as well as Founding Fathers. Race relations and class relations are realistically portrayed. However, the real value of the book is in its depiction of the medicine of the time and the horrors of the infirmary tents. While the prose is sometimes a bit overworked, the characters are well drawn and the story moves along with force. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in colonial history and especially those wanting to learn about camp life in the Revolutionary army. Gregg S. Pressman MD, FACC, FASE
This is a series of essays by a fellow TMBG nerd and NPR enthusiast who is also a frequent contributor to my favorite thing in the world, NPR's "This American Life". How to be a Northeastern leftist while still espousing totally non-ironic admiration for the good old US of A and it's history? Read this. It's hilarious and a total joy.
