Annoying... mostly because it prominently features two of my least favorite things in the world: smoking and lying. Thanks Molly :-P

This is the first in a series of three books about what the first few years of serious global warming effects might be like. Even though it's set in the very near future (approximately now), I'd still categorize it as science fiction. It's heavy on technical details and most of the major characters in the book are scientists, but like other Kim Stanley Robinson books I've read, he does a great job of keeping the characters interesting. He's a writer I'd be inclined to recommend to someone who might not typically be interested in reading science fiction. This book made me feel like an ass for not sticking with my science education. I could be making a sweet climate laser right now rather than building web sites. Anyway, the book was good enough to make me want to want to read the other two in the series.

If you are not into Western classical music, most of the stuff will go over your head. However, if like me, you are willing to overlook that major detail, it's worth a read.

it was really neat seeing the places in Savannah that were mentioned in the book.
There is always a little tinge of sadness when I read stories like these, based on historical events. It's heartbreaking to imagine that things like this really did happen to real people. That being said, I enjoyed the story and couldn't wait to get to the end.

A fantastic account of the latest in developmental biology told through anectdotes of history's "mutants." Great for anyone interested in chemistry as the basis for life.

Pretty interesting account of a writer's year-long walk through the seasons of a Benedictine monastery and her experiences there. Not exactly what I thought it would be, but interesting nonetheless.
My favorite book of all time!

henry blodget... ha! that notorious internet swindler! i swear i found his name familiar, but i was initially too taken in by the book's beautiful cover and small size to realise. But this book really serve as his atonement. nowadays, investment books are either tome-filled with jargons, or too superficial (jim crammer's books). This book is a fine balance. it has a clear revolving theme: buy index funds, cos most mutual funds and stock-pickings incur too much cost to offset their returns. As to how tt's possible, pick up a copy and read. It's only 256 pages and size of your palm. Concise, yet precise actionable information - tt's what i like. ACTIONABLE.
